Vlado Boroš:
The Privatization of
Klanječki-magazin
d.d., Klanjec
As is evident in this case,
there have been two distinct privatization processes in the
Republic of Croatia: the formal one, done through the
appropriate state body, the Croatian Privatization Fund, and a
"parallel" process, a super-secret system of "private
privatization," via "Zagrebačka banke" d.d. This case shows
what happened to the private firm owned by Mr. Vlado Boroš
of Bedekovčina, "Boroš" d.o.o. He was the owner of a small
retail chain in the Croatian Zagorje region, and business was
going well - until he decided to purchase a company by the
name of "KLA-MA" d.d., Klanjec, not knowing that it had
already been "reserved" for the ZABA "team." That's when the
horror starts...
The result is
typical for Croatia: two companies destroyed, workers out of
jobs, while the blame is placed on legitimate businessmen,
under the slogan "it is all the tycoons' fault." However, a
closer analysis of the case demonstrates that the case has
nothing to do with "tycoons," nor have the Boroš family ever
been "tycoons," and that both the businessmen and the workers
were the victims of a hidden clique who, having discovered
that it couldn't control the privatization process of "KLA-MA"
d.d., decided to destroy everything according to the
principle: "It either belongs to us, or to no one!".
This "story from Croatia" is
for those with the nerves to read privatizational horror
stories and demystify the entire "privatization story."

ZABA Steals a Quarter
Million Euros from a Customer's Account
It seems
as though there is no end to the scandals at Zagrebačka banka. On
February 17, 2006, Zagreb attorney Ozren Tatarac has filed with
the Croatian National Bank (HNB), an urgent "Complaint Regarding
the Illegal Actions of Zagrebačka banka d.d.“.
This drmatic letter to the state central bank once again points
to one of "Croatia's leading banks" as a center of banking crime,
corruption, stealing and unlawful acts, which, so far, have not
been dealt with on the part of either the Government, the State
Prosecutor, the Justice Ministry or the police, even though the
damages so far have amounted to several billion euros.
